Child’s Pose and Cat/Cow Poses are for SLEEPING
During the summer, I find I have a harder time sleeping. All of the heat makes me a bit uncomfortable and a little restless.
Last night in an effort to put myself in a more restful state, I hit my mat for a little meditation, breath work, and yoga.
I took a Wide-Kneed Child’s pose and took a very deep breath allowing my chest and belly expand. When I exhaled, my rib cage came in closer to my center and my navel drifted closer to my spine. I repeated the breathe in Wide-Kneed Child’s pose for ten repetitions alternating the cheek that was resting on the floor every two breaths.
On an inhalation, I slowly brought myself to a Table Top position with my wrists under my shoulders and knees under my hips. Then, I began the Cat/Cow poses combining my movement and my breath. I did ten, easy flowing repetitions of this, and then repeated my Wide-Kneed Child’s pose breathing meditation.
After this brief practice, I was calm and serene. Last night, I slept like a baby! Give it a go, and let me know how it goes!
TAKE CARE OF YOU!
The June Experiment
This June I’m determined to do more! I want to be fitter mentally and bodily. So for the entire month of June I will be doing more yoga, pilates, and meditation. I don’t aim to keep this practice forever, but during this experiment, I aim to discover what I need more and less of in my daily life. I also plan to chronicle this little experiment!
This is what I am aiming for during the first nine days. I’m sure this list will evolve as my weekly schedule unfolds, but I am doing this to better myself, my family, and my friends, so I’m making this a priority! Keep on me if I don’t post things!

New Class Starting June 6th!
June 6th marks the first offering of my new Wednesday evening class at McCabe Park Fitness Center! On Wednesdays at 6:30 in the p.m., I will be offering a Gentle Yoga class to promote flexibility!
While all yoga promotes flexibility and overall wellness, this class will be for the specific purpose of making you feel more at home in your body. You’ll learn movements and poses that overtime will increase your range of motion and allow you to do some “stupid human tricks” at holiday parties!
So, join me and some of fellow yoga doers for the flexibility cause on June 6th at McCabe Park Fitness Center at 6:30p.m. For more details please visit: http://www.facebook.com/events/404433749595194/
Work at desk? ME TOO! Don’t forget to get up every 30 minutes or every hour and give your muscles a stretch! And, if need be, turn on some James Brown and MAKE IT COUNT!
What you need to know:
Vinyasa basically means linking movement with breath. The practice is more active than some yoga classes. There is a lot of flowing from one pose to the next.
What you need to bring:
…
Yoga Mat, Water, Positive Thoughts, and Sense of Humor!
What to wear:
Comfy clothes! This class will get sweaty, so keep that in mind when choosing your clothing. NO SHOES! NO SOCKS!
No yoga mat? No problem! McCabe Park Community Center has community mats for you.
If you have props at home (blankets, blocks, straps), please bring those to class. You may need them. You may not. Better to be prepared!
*Please note that this is a strong yoga class. We cannot grow without challenge! All levels are welcome! ASPIRE!
**Located across the street from Star Bagel where Murphy Rd turns into 46th Ave North.
